LOCATION

If you are coming directly to Shinshu, then Tokyo (Narita) and Nagoya (Chubu / Centrair) are two convenient airports to choose from.

 
ACCESS TO SHINSHU FROM TOKYO OR NAGOYA AREAS

Nagano is about 220km north-west of Tokyo. It takes only an hour and 40 minutes reach Nagano by Shinkansen. Matsumoto is also 220km north-west of Tokyo, connected by a conventional railway. It is 2 hours and 30 minutes from Shinjuku station to Matsumoto station by the Limited Express trains called Azusa.

Nagano and Matsumoto are 250km and 190km away from Nagoya, respectively.

An expressway system connects these cities with Tokyo, Nagoya and Niigata.

Scheduled buses run on the expressway daily.

Shinshu Matsumoto Airport is a small regional airport. Destinations include Sapporo and Fukuoka. Service is limited.

GATEWAY AIRPORTS: TOKYO-NARITA AND NAGOYA-CENTRAIR

Once you fly in to Tokyo-Narita airport, you can come to Shinshu via Central Tokyo.

Nagoya Airport (Centrair) is a new and very convenient airport. If you are heading to Matsumoto, then Nagoya Airport is much closer than Tokyo-Narita airport.
